At Sherwood Dental, we emphasize the importance of proper oral care for all ages. Preventative care is a vital part of dental health, and good habits formed early will have a positive impact. In order to establish a solid foundation for professional dental care, we take the steps necessary to make dental visits comfortable and welcoming for all of our patients, including children. Parents and children alike will appreciate the careful consideration given to making the earliest interactions with our dentists and our hygienists pleasant ones.

This will make a child familiar with the staff and the surroundings, and allow us to monitor a child’s development from the very start. We view this as an opportunity to partner with families in educating and coaching children from an early age on the importance of oral care, good nutrition and helping them learn effective brushing and flossing techniques.

How to Keep Baby's Mouth Clean

By the age of three, most children will have their entire set of 20 primary teeth. Care at this stage is vital to protect the development of the permanent teeth. By setting the example from the earliest age, we seek to foster a relationship of trust and comfort among the children, their parents, and our dental staff that will serve everyone well through childhood, the teen years, and into adulthood.

It is important to emphasize that while preventative care may be perceived by some as optional, it is actually very vital to preserving dental health and preventing complex issues. Professional cleanings and examinations are tools for catching developing problems early and being able to resolve them before they progress further. Regular preventative care means fewer dental procedures for patients, and that means less expense overall for parents.

Owner dentist Dr. Stephen Gaines is an authority on restorative, cosmetic, rehabilitative, and laser dentistry. Having graduated from the University of Toronto, he earned his dental degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry (1997). He follows continuing education courses to keep up with dentistry developments. He’s a lecturer, trainer and Fellow and Founding Member of the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry.

Dr. Arti Patel has extensive clinical experience in cosmetic/restorative dentistry, endodontics, oral surgery, and pediatric dentistry.
